What is new?
Grocery store employees declared Emergency Workers in Minnesota and Vermont. Rightly so.
Lindsey LaPointe won her race for the 19th District Illinois House of Representatives seat. This could also fall under the “hope” category.
Places like Oak Park are issuing “Shelter in Place” commands.
The blending of categories. I’m starting to think in terms of the New same things and the Same new things. The new normals and the same upheavals.
What is the same?
There’s nothing like a surprise parcel in the mail.
Congress hates poor people.
There are things beyond our control.
What is the hope?
There’s something hopeful and sweet about the videos people are sharing - dance moves, dogs, sea tides, puppet shows. What an unrelenting desire to connect we, as a species, possess!
Healthcare workers doing the damn thing, day in and day out.
The impulse to share. One of the earliest signs of hope I observed was the sharing of online teaching tools. Professors and K-12 teachers and outside specialty teachers, all eager to share materials that would help support our collective student body.
